The Majestic Duck

(Unofficial) Day 11 of the Mosaic Tour

Sunday, 7.1

Mr. Lee, owner of the Hana Leader Tour company, was beyond wonderful to us during our three-day trips to Paju and Pohang. We rode in comfort, style, and noraebang. On this, the first Post-Tour day, most of us were still in Korea, so he offered to take us to a restaurant about an hour outside of Seoul. His generous gift helped keep the momentum of the Tour rolling.

It would take a lifetime to sample all the sights, sounds, and tastes of Korea, but this last gift was like a satisfying digestif after the meal.

Sunday morning, as we waited in the hotel lobby, I spied this awesome sticker. At first, I thought it was just another weird "Koreans love English" type of thing, but Matt discovered it was a reference to something more meaningful, which sort of made me feel dumb.

Outside of the Majestic Duck restaurant, which, we learned, is pretty famous for cooking the most delicious duck in Korea.

Like many days, it was raining, so unfortunately, I didn't get to pose with this duck outside the restaurant with as much panache as was owed. Kinda mad nobody told me my shirt was all kinds of wrong in the back.

Like most of our meals, there were several courses. This was the beginning, just as the grill was getting set up. Sweet potatoes are inside the foil, and baked as our duck sizzled atop the grill. This meal was ENDLESS, and included smoky and succulent duck (obv), various banchan wrapped in lettuce leaves, rice and bean porridge. . . honestly, it was almost too much. I thought I'd never be hungry again.

Before what we understood what it really meant to feel full.

Right outside the restrooms was a veggie garden and clay pots filled with kimchi.
